Indonesian Arts is a gift shop at the Crickethead Inn Bed & Breakfast in Tucson, Arizona (cricketheadinn.com).
The Inn and the Art Shop are owned by Michael Lord and Wayan Suarniti and run by Wayan Suarniti.
Mike made his first trip to Indonesia in 1994 and was immediately hooked on the textile diversity of Indonesia. In subsequent trips, his interests expanded into the carving skills of Javanese, Maduranese and Balinese people.
So, being single, he began to collect puppets, masks, groboks (carved teak trunks) and musical instruments. He still makes trips to the islands east of Bali for textiles. In 2000, he met fate (and of course didn't realize it until later) in the person of Ni Wayan Suarniti.
Wayan managed (for more then 10 years) the only women's Art Gallery in Asia, Seniwati Gallery of Art by Women. Our first encounter was keyed by mutual teasing and joking. But in June 2005, she "put her magic on me", and so we were married in August 2006. Now, our combined shopping efforts (a scary thought) will bring more wonderful Indonesian Art home.
