Bali Art - A lot has been written of this unique and fabulous island, but not enough about my wonderful, beautiful, joyous wife Wayan. She is from the highlands near Bedugul, a cool and very beautiful place. Now we share the shopping trips while using Bali and her family as a base.
Bali has art as part of its soul and being there is to be surrounded by all kinds of art. Carving, music, painting, stone sculptures, dance, batiking and textile painting, as well as songket weaving and the incredible double ikat. In the past years figures carved by Balinese have be come my favorite item, so now we have several days of touring and looking for these.
Mask, textiles and music round out the numbers of goodies found there.The coolest thing is a 13 foot long wind - powered instrument that has 8 major sound chambers and plays a complicated dance composition. Absolutely fantastic!!!!! |
